Director Penelope Spheeris made a guest appearance on October 7 at Cassell’s Music in San Fernando, California, the music store where Wayne was denied permission play “Stairway to Heaven” in the 1992 film Wayne’s World.
For the movie’s 25th anniversary, Spheeris, who directed the flick, recorded a podcast with “On Location with Jared Cowan” and met with fans to take photos and sign autographs.
“It’s amazing how that movie still has an incredibly loyal fan base and is even popular with young millennials who weren’t yet even born when the movie first came out,” said Ed Intagliata, owner of Cassell’s Music.
“Every summer, in addition to local tourists, we attract many foreigners on vacation from Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, who make a special trip to our store to see where Wayne’s World was filmed,” added Intagliata. “My favorite story is from a few years ago when two couples from Australia visited and took many pictures of themselves and the memorabilia in the store. On their way out, they asked me for MY autograph! First and only time that has ever happened.”
