This year, guitar and bass instructor Jeremy Gilless celebrates his 15th year with Bill’s Music of Catonsville, Maryland. Gilless has logged in 15 years and hundreds of students for music instruction at Bill’s and has become one of the store’s most in-demand instructors.
Each week he teaches approximately 30 students at Bill’s on a mix of acoustic and electric guitar and electric / upright bass. His students range from elementary school age to adults, all of which Gilless enjoys observing the gradual increase in skill level from week to week. As a self-proclaimed “extrovert” the enthusiastic instructor finds it gratifying getting to know his students and their families each week when they come in for their lessons.
While Gilless takes in the majority of his income teaching music lessons, he also enjoys playing music in both public and private venues. While he finds that gigging solo acoustic at special events and private venues are lucrative, The Jeremy Gilless Band can also be found entertaining folks at local hot spots including Summer Concert Series “Frederick Road Fridays” which has become a favorite event for locals.
Bill’s Music touts Gilless as one of its most sought-after instructors, always with a waiting list of aspiring students. Jamie Reese, who oversees the lesson program at Bill’s, hired Gilless 15 years ago to teach guitar and bass at the family owned music store which was started by her parents Bill & Nancy Higgins back in 1965.
“I have worked with dozens of instructors over the years and Jeremy is as friendly, professional and musically gifted as they come,” Reese says. “I see a lot of moms and dads come in hoping to sign their child up for lessons with Jeremy. I even took lessons from him myself.”
