Alvarez Guitars is thrilled for its artist, GC Johnson of Acoustic Labs, whose guitar performances feature in the film “Hologram for the King”, starring Tom Hanks.
The film was directed by Tom Tykwer and scored by composer Johnny Klimek, who regularly utilizes GC Johnson for his unique approach to the guitar.
“A Hologram for the King is really special movie for me, as it’s my sonic silver screen debut,” said Johnson. “It was important to be able to deliver a spectrum of guitar tones to facilitate Johnny Klimek’s amazing score, which means I really end up putting a guitar through its paces with open tunings, prepared techniques and use of electrics. I use Alvarez because they thrive in that environment and deliver a lot of inspiration as well.”
A Hologram for the King is adapted from the Dave Eggers book of the same title. Tom Hanks stars as Alan Clay, a travelling business man struggling to make a deal in Saudi Arabia, who finds renewal and discovery in the culture and friends that he encounters. The OST also features performances by the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kristian Järvi.
“GC’s guitar and other instruments were a great addition to the score,” said Hologram for the King’s composer, Johnny Klimek. “A film like this has a lot of heart and emotion and it’s important to work with players that can evoke that through their performance.”
GC Johnson continues to work with Johnny Klimek on upcoming projects and is nearly completed his 8th album, titled “Majestik”, which will feature a new collection of filmic, emotional tracks.
