Zoom has shared some new statistics about portable audio and video products and streaming services.
Industry data shows that Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu spent $6B, $4.5B, and $2.5B respectively on proprietary content in 2017. Collectively, that $13B spend was more than the non-sports budgets of Viacom, CBS, Discovery, and AMC combined. In 2018, Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu are projected to increase their spend by 30 percent, for a total of nearly $17B on original content.
“Premium content creation isn’t just for the elite anymore,” stated Scott Goodman, CEO of Zoom North America. “The definition of a creator is changing. This is a community that’s hustling. They aren’t pursuing a hobby; they’re building businesses to meet increasing demand.”
As new content development becomes paramount for program providers, they’ll look for new creators to expand their content offerings, causing demand for handheld recorders and portable interfaces to increase.
“We’re excited to be a part of this creative landscape and to continue supporting content creators with high-quality, innovative products,” stated Goodman.
