Hagan to Head Zildjian Artist Relations Worldwide

The Zildjian Company has announced that Sarah Hagan has been promoted to director of artist relations-worldwide, effective immediately.  Sarah assumes responsibility for planning and executing Zildjian’s global Artist Relations Program, based out of its headquarters in Norwell, Massachusetts.  Sarah will lead the AR team, continuing to build upon Zildjian’s long history of helping artists find their unique sound.

Eastman Music Company has acquired renowned brass instrument maker S.E. Shires Co. S.E. Shires Co. will continue to maintain and operate its corporate headquarters and production facility in Hopedale, Massachusetts. Current president Steve Shires will remain in his executive role overseeing all day-to-day operations of the company.

“We are honored and excited to be able to give the support needed to Shires’ talented team of craftspeople so they can continue their tradition of building some of the finest horns in the world,” said Eastman’s owner Qian Ni. “Our company is committed to building the best sounding instruments in the world, and we believe that S.E. Just as the GRAMMY Award recognizes excellence in recording, the GRAMMY Foundation Signature Schools program honors public high schools for outstanding commitment to their music education programs.  Fred and Dinah Gretsch are uniquely suited to act as presenters of this important award.

26th Annual KMC Charity Golf Tournament

KMC Music held its 26th annual “Everett Porter Unintentional” Charity Golf Tournament on June 3rd in Avon, Connecticut. Proceeds from the event were presented to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, which was founded in 1988 by Paul Newman to serve children and their families coping with cancer, sickle cell anemia and other serious illnesses. The annual tournament has raised over $100,000 for The Hole In The Wall Gang and has helped send more than 40 children to the camp.

Shure Applauds FCC Expansion of Wireless Mic Licenses

The Federal Communications Commission recently completed a multi-year exploration of the role of wireless microphones in modern content production and the technical challenges that surround their use.  The study included consultations with wireless microphone users across many different types of productions.

Concluding that the use of wireless microphones is an integral part of major productions and events, and essential to maintaining high standards of production quality, the FCC has adopted new rules that expand wireless microphone license eligibility to include professional sound companies and venues that routinely use 50 or more wireless microphones.  The move will insure that concert venues, theaters, convention centers, theme parks, professional sound companies, and other large-scale users will continue to be able to employ wireless microphones reliably as spectrum use intensifies.

John R. Chase, Jr. 56 of Palm Harbor, Florida passed away May 15 at Tampa General Hospital surrounded by his family.

Chase worked in the music industry for 40 years. He was on staff at Washington Music in Maryland, was a technician and traveled with the legendary Stevie Wonder, and was a field representative for Mainline Marketing, Line 6, and Korg.  Chase also had his own business for several years, Music Lines, where he represented some of the top companies in the music industry.

The event illustrated the powerful distance learning capabilities and Internet connectivity of Yamaha’s reproducing piano, the Disklavier, and the emerging Disklavier Education Network.
