Steinway Sale Announced for $438 Million

Steinway Musical InstrumentsSteinway Musical Instruments agreed this week to its acquisition by private equity firm Kohlberg & Company. The deal is reportedly worth $438 million and is expected to close in this year’s third quarter.

The $35 a share deal with Kohlberg & Company offered Steinway shareholders a 33 percent premium over the average closing price on Steinway shares in the previous 90 days. Averaged over the past year, the offer represents a 45 percent premium.

Yamaha, VH1 Save the Music Foundation and Viacom Partner to Achieve Guinness World Record

‚ÄčMusic filled Manhattan’s West Village when 175 musicians performed on 175 Yamaha portable keyboards to achieve the Guinness World Records title for "Largest Electronic Keyboard Ensemble" as part of the annual Make Music New York celebration.

Now in its seventh year, Make Music New York is a unique, citywide festival of more than 1,000 free concerts held in public spaces throughout the five boroughs, and all on June 21st, the first day of summer.

NAMM Members Celebrate National Music Day

Carlsbad, CA, (June 24, 2013)— NAMM members and musicians of all abilities tuned-up their instruments to welcome the Summer Solstice in a daylong, musical free-for-all in observance of the first-ever National Music Day, June 21. The sounds of free, of-the-people music filled the air in more than 514 cities in 110 countries around the world.

NAMM members organized and participated in dozens of live music events, including uke circles, jam sessions, musical-instrument flash mobs, giving free music lessons, and record breaking performances, to create a musical feast for participants and spectators. Spearheaded by the National Music Day Foundation and Make Music cities, the mission is to encourage everyone to enjoy the unifying power and benefits of playing music.

Stadiumred Announces Partnership with Gibson Brands

New York GC Workers Vote to Unionize

The national Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) orchestrated the win, which marks the first in a series of anticipated similar union votes around New York City and potentially the rest of the country.

Fukutome Named President of Yamaha Corporation of America

Hitoshi Fukutome has been named president of Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA). He succeeds Takuya “Tak” Nakata, who will return to Yamaha Corporation Japan (YCJ) to lead sales and marketing for the Musical Instrument (MI) and Audio 

Products Group, and will continue to work closely with YCA.

Nakata has served as president of YCA since April 2010, overseeing a period of growth for the company despite a difficult financial climate in the United States.
