NAMM Members Celebrate National Music Day

Carlsbad, CA, (June 24, 2013)— NAMM members and musicians of all abilities tuned-up their instruments to welcome the Summer Solstice in a daylong, musical free-for-all in observance of the first-ever National Music Day, June 21. The sounds of free, of-the-people music filled the air in more than 514 cities in 110 countries around the world.

NAMM members organized and participated in dozens of live music events, including uke circles, jam sessions, musical-instrument flash mobs, giving free music lessons, and record breaking performances, to create a musical feast for participants and spectators. Spearheaded by the National Music Day Foundation and Make Music cities, the mission is to encourage everyone to enjoy the unifying power and benefits of playing music.

Stadiumred Announces Partnership with Gibson Brands

Stadiumred, a music and entertainment company based in New York, has entered into a promotional partnership with the newly named Gibson Brands. Beginning on June 15, 2013, instruments from Gibson Brands will be on display and available to artists at both the New York City Stadiumred Studios Facility and an installation of a “Gibson Music Room” at the Stadiumred Estate in The Hamptons for the summer 2013 event series.

New York GC Workers Vote to Unionize

The 57 workers at Guitar Center’s Manhattan retail store recently voted to form a union.

The national Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) orchestrated the win, which marks the first in a series of anticipated similar union votes around New York City and potentially the rest of the country.

Hitoshi Fukutome has been named president of Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA). He succeeds Takuya “Tak” Nakata, who will return to Yamaha Corporation Japan (YCJ) to lead sales and marketing for the Musical Instrument (MI) and Audio 

Products Group, and will continue to work closely with YCA.

Nakata has served as president of YCA since April 2010, overseeing a period of growth for the company despite a difficult financial climate in the United States.

MakeMusic Sale to LaunchEquity Under Investigation

The recent sale agreement of Make- Music, Inc. to LaunchEquity Acquisition Partners, LLC Designated Series Education Partners (“LEAP”), is currently under investigation in New York for possible breaches of fiduciary duty.The New York law firm of Levi & Korsinsky has stated that it will focus on whether the MakeMusic Board of Directors breached their fiduciary duties to stockholders by failing to adequately shop the company before entering into the transaction. The concern is that LEAP is underpaying for its shares, thus unlawfully harming MakeMusic stockholders.
