Music China expands expo space

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • July 15, 2015

Despite dividing opinion over the future direction of its Frankfurt show, Musikmesse has promised that this year’s Music China will be the biggest yet for the Shanghai expo.

Taking place from 14th – 17th October 2015 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai, the show will have 105,000 square metres of exhibition space – a seven per cent increase on the previous year. There’s no mention of expected visitor numbers.

“Business is always the foremost priority for our show participants and the overwhelming response from the industry supports that Music China is a strong trade platform in Asia. We are projecting to have 1,800 exhibitors to showcase a wide range of musical instruments at the 2015 show and attract 73,000 visitors from around the world,” said Fiona Chiew, deputy general manager for Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai).

Confirmed exhibitors so far include Alfred, ABRSM, Bach, Blüthner, Bösendorfer, Buffet, Casio, D’Addario, Fazioli, Fender, GEWA, Grotrian, Hal Leonard, Ibanez, Kawai, Korg, Ludwig, Marshall, Medeli, Music Sales, Ovation, Pearl, Pearl River, Petrof, PRS, Roland, Selmer, Samick, Schimmel, Steinway, Tama, Tascam, Taylor and Yamaha, as well as 10 international groups and pavilions from Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan and the UK.

The Chinese market continues to grow, with international sales of $2.029bn (up 3.91%) last year and an import market worth $318 million, up 8.5% compared to 2013.

A programme of live events and seminars will focus on business strategies in new markets and business segments, education for kids, appreciation for musical instruments and music workshops.

Events include:

  • NAMM CMIA Forum and NAMM University Courses
  • Music Education Conference and master classes
