Music China reveals show programme

Music China has revealed more about the various elements of its upcoming show in Shanghai in October.

From 14th – 17th October, the expo will feature more than a thousand forums, conferences, indoor and outdoor shows and live performances.

In addition to the 1,800 exhibitors staging at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai, Music China the show will feature “business networking, knowledge expansion and music and culture appreciation”.

Events include:

NAMM CMIA Industry Forum (14th October)

The annual forum will discuss how to optimise sales processes, creating customers for life through online marketing and social media and explain with successful case studies.

Speakers include:

Shicheng Wang, Vice President of China National Light Industry Council and President of China Musical Instrument Association, China

Claudio Formisano, President of CAFIM and DISMA, Italy

Betty Heywood, Director of International Affairs of NAMM, USA

NAMM University Courses (15th – 16th October)

The signature courses will have an intensive how-to session on the important elements of selling musical instruments, retail shops’ new business models, effective training programme to prevent brain drain and online business strategies for medium to small-scaled retailers. Speakers include:

Bernie Capicchiano, General Manager of Musico Pty, Australia

Paul Decker, owner of Music Villa, US

Chuan Qin, General Manager of Hebei Qinchuan Musical Instruments, China

There will be a series of programmes to promote music learning, the fusion of Chinese traditional and Western music culture and instrument making.

Music China Educational Programme (14th – 16th October)

Experts from industry associations, music schools and leading brands will speak at master classes and free trial classes about music education for kids, adults, amateurs and professionals. They include five-time Grammy Award winner and the world’s top bass player Victor Wooten and Dirk Hofmann, an experienced music teacher at Deutsche Schule Shanghai. There will also be education programmes and workshops on various instruments including brass & woodwind instruments, piano, jazz and Chinese traditional music.

Seminars of Technology and Innovation (16th October)

A series of topics with a focus on music web audio application and MIDI technology will be addressed in the Technology and Innovation seminar sessions with the following speakers:

Tom White, President of MIDI Manufacturers Association, CMIA MIDI Technology Working Committee, USA

Bill Luan, Internet Expert of Google China, China

Global Forum on Chinese Traditional Music (15th – 16th October)

This is a valuable opportunity to learn tips on zither, pipa and erhu performance skills from professors at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and famous Chinese musicians.

Stringed and bowed Instruments series programme (14th – 17th October)

Violin makers Elisa Scrollavezza and Giovanni Battista Morassi from Italy, and other master creators, will demonstrate instrument-making techniques

Meanwhile, artist appearances include Kumi Masunaga, an international drum circle facilitator, who will be coordinating the Drum Circles at Music China. In addition, Europe’s largest school band competition SchoolJam winner Superheld, will perform onstage.

Equally important is a strong line-up of famous artists and musicians who will perform onstage during the four-day show, they include:

Pianist Maksim Mrvica from Croatia will perform at Music China. The keyboard ambassador of Yamaha will have a grand performance of his big hits at the show’s Stage S3.

Taiwanese pop singer and composer Crowd Lu will have a performance and press conference

Victor Wooten, the world’s top bass player will perform his famous songs

Eight pianists from Estonian Piano Orchestra will play four-hand pianos

Italian acoustic guitar player RafQu

Rock band S.O.S. Save Our Souls from Italy

Saxophonist and Jazz educator Mr Jody Espina

Brazilian guitar player, songwriter and producer Mr Conrado Pesinato will perform “fusion rock music”.

Ukulele player Ryo Montgomery, who has extensive experience performing at many festivals and radio stations around the world.

Held alongside the show is a charity programme – Donation Campaign for Children with Autism where professional therapists will show how music can be used in treatment. There will be a live performance by autistic children and fundraising activities.
