D’Addario backs string recycling programme

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • February 26, 2016

D’Addario has hooked up with a global recycling scheme called TerraCycle to introduce a string recycling programme.

The initiative is called Playback and claims to be the industry’s first string recycling programme.  Musicians can take their used strings – regardless of the brand – to participating dealers for safe recycling, earning reward points for every .25 pound of strings turned in, which equals about six sets of acoustic strings or seven sets of electric strings.

To help launch the initiative, D’Addario is sponsoring 40 Recycle and Restring events across the US during April. At each event, players can bring their guitars to select recycling centres to have their old strings recycled and instruments re-strung with D’Addario NYXL or Nickel Bronze Acoustic strings, free of charge.

It is estimated that more than 1.5 million pounds of instrument string metal could be put into landfill every year.
