Barnes and Mullins relaunches Promuco sticks

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • April 27, 2016

Barnes and Mullins has acquired UK-based drumstick brand, Promuco.

Used by pioneering drummers such as John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer), Phil Collins and Buddy Rich, the brand can boast a solid reputation among pro-players.

Initial offerings from Promuco use Hickory wood to create a versatile, long-lasting and robust range of sticks with a natural feel suitable for all styles, designed for hard hitters. Four weight and size variants are available – 7a, 5a, 5b and 2b.

Notorious for breaking numerous pairs of drumsticks when performing, John Bonham overcame the issue when he turned to Promuco sticks, going on to develop a signature series with the brand that he affectionately named his “trees” due to their superior strength and longevity.

Founded in 1964, continued endorsement from leading drummers in rock’s golden era in the 70’s and into the 80’s saw the brand grow from a small-scale canal-side manufacturing operation in Doncaster to one with substantial global distribution. At their peak Promuco produced over 1.5 million drumsticks each year and held 28 different drumstick patents designed by engineering graduate and owner Garry Waller, who was instrumental in the design of highly esteemed Hayman drum kit before his time with Promuco. The brand also went on to gain the War Office contract for military bands.

Promuco Drumstick pairs are available to order now from Barnes & Mullins Ltd with a retail price of £5.99.
