DW sells off Toca

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • January 3, 2017

Rhythm Band Instruments (RBI) has purchased Toca Percussion from Drum Workshop.

Toca was one of a number of percussion brands bought by DW from Fender’s KMC subsidiary in 2015 alongside Latin Percussion, Gretsch Drums, Gibraltar Hardware and KAT Percussion. European distribution was handled by Gewa.

RBI is best-known for its range of children’s instruments including Kidsplay, Chromaharp and Boomwhackers tuned musical percussion tubes as well as being the exclusive distributor of brands including Aulos, Noteknacks and pBuzz among others.

RBI has long been a leader in the development and distribution of elementary musical instruments and related materials and will wholly own Toca Percussion and its extensive line of hand percussion and accessories.

“Toca Percussion is a terrific asset and fits perfectly into both our company’s existing position as a leader in the music education space, and, our go-forward plans for RBI Music,” said Rhythm Band Instruments president, Brad Kirkpatrick.

“We’re extremely enthusiastic about working with both entities’ suppliers, customers and artists to continue to build upon the legacy of Toca Percussion.”

“With an increasing demand for high-quality music education products, RBI is uniquely positioned to ensure that Toca’s wide range of hand percussion reaches the youth music education market,” added Drum Workshop president and CEO, Chris Lombardi.
