New radio mics from Sennheiser

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • February 9, 2017

Sennheiser has launched new frequency variants of its evolution wireless ew 300 G3 and ew 500 G3 radio microphones.

The new models have been designed to anticipate forthcoming changes in spectrum allocation in the USA and Canada, with the wireless microphone and monitoring systems now available in an A1 variant that covers the 470 to 516 MHz range.

As demand for mobile broadband services in North America increases, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Industry of Canada (IC) have agreed on a future reallocation of spectrum in the UHF band to accommodate these evolving needs. The 600 MHz range, which is currently used for TV broadcast and wireless microphones, will be repurposed based on the results of a spectrum auction.

The new variants of the presentation-focused ew 300 G3 and the top-of-the-line ew 500 G3 for music and stage applications anticipate these future spectrum reallocations to offer systems that are ready for today and also future-proofed.

“Our evolution wireless G3 series has been created to anticipate and exceed the expectations and needs of those with the very highest standards for their stage and presentation equipment. With its exceptional performance, absolute ruggedness and reliability, this series has been designed to last,” explained Martin Fischer, product manager for Sennheiser’s Live Performance and Music segment: “Thus, when offering systems that can take the rigours of any performance or event, we are committed to making these futureproof too – ready for a spectrum reallocation that is expected to take place several years hence. It’s a further reason to count on the absolute dependability of ew G3 systems.”
