DW launches Daru Jones kit

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • March 2, 2017

Drum Workshop has released a new kit under the Pacific Drums and Percussion (PDP) marque designed in conjunction with Grammy-nominated drummer Daru Jones (Jack White).

The Daru Jones New Yorker (DJNY) kit from Pacific Drums & Percussion (PDP) is pitched as “the ultimate gig-friendly kit for today’s savvy, working drummer”.

The four-piece drumset comes in Gold-to-Black Sparkle Fade Lacquer and features hybrid poplar/maple short-stack sized shells and a host of boutique-inspired features. It is packaged with DW’s award-winning 6000 Series Ultralight Hardware and durable nylon carrying bags for everything.

“The DJNY is stylish, compact and mighty also well versed to fit your preferred genre platform,” said Jones. Everything about this kit is high quality, lightweight and easy to commute from point A to B on foot or by transport. The bags and stands are the icing on the cake.”

The set includes a 10” x 18” bass drum, 5” x 10” tom and 7”x14” toms and matching 6” x 13” snare drum; all weighing less than 60 pounds.  Other standard features include ratchet bass drum mount (bass drum cover plate also included), MAG snare throw-off, matching wood bass drum counter hoops, REMO heads and more.

“This kit was inspired by the city, so it had to be easy to pack up and move around,” said DW vice president of Marketing, Scott Donnell. “The goal was for it to not sound like a travel kit.  We didn’t want to sacrifice sound quality for portability if we could help it.  We also wanted it to be a package, so drummers had the proper cases to fit the set and the lightest hardware possible. The entire thing fits in 3 bags and it’s a remarkably accessible price point.  If drummers are looking for a second set or gig rig, the DJNY is it.”
