Guitar Village in Farnham has snapped up a couple of rare Larrivée guitars, created as part of the firm’s recent 50th anniversary celebrations.
Eponymous owner, Jean Larrivée, built a number of models for display at NAMM 2017. Two models featured rare Austrian Flamed Walnut, built from wood he personally chose at high altitude in Austria. The Larrivée P-09 and LV-09 custom models were quickly snapped up by UK dealer Guitar Village.
Jean Larrivée discovered this rare wood during one of his wood sourcing visits to Austria. He purchased enough to build four guitars and after then returned to purchase the entire log.
He explained: “Walnut is not common in Austria. It is well known for Spruce but not Walnut, especially with so much figuring like this. The odds of finding a tree like this are very small so there will be some very happy guitar buyers out there”.
As well as the solid Flamed Walnut top, back and sides, the LV-09 model features a Shamrock Vine fretboard inlay. Both models have Larrivée Ivy headstock inlays.
