For many dealers the terms and conditions and minimum stock requirements from under-pressure manufacturers can be prohibitive and sometimes unworkable within the structure of their business, casing them to turn away from once ‘must stock’ brands. So last week we asked “Have terms and conditions ever deterred you from stocking certain brands?”
Clearly, in business a deal has to be right for both sides for it to work. But many dealers find themselves somewhat over a barrel when it comes to stocking certain of the bigger selling brands. Brands which stores know they really have to have in to be considered a bona fide music dealership. So some 87 per cent of our snap poll said that terms and conditions had deterred them from selling certain brands. The other 13 per cent which said no, clearly have a more stoic attitude to their suppliers. Or, more likely, just a bigger shop.
