SOCIAL MEDIA 101: Be consistent

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • September 11, 2015

The second of our short series of social media hacks, looks at the importance of treating your all your profiles as you would your brand…

Choose a consistent name across all channels. Your social media ID is as important as your brand and should obviously reflect that brand name. Of course, it may be that someone else in an unrelated field already has the name you really want to use, but once you have chosen something fits your branding try and use it consistently. Avoid nicknames, shortened names and so on unless they are already a familiar part of your branding. A site like www.knowem.com operates as a social media brand protection service and can help you get your branding aligned how you want it.

Use the same profile photo across all channels. A site such as https://ifttt.com will enable you to sync your profile pics so that when you change your pic on Twitter in changes on your Facebook page as well.

Make sure the design on your pages is consistent. Use the same photos across all your profiles and the same filter on your Instagram pics. Make sure your logo looks good and that the colours you use are consistent with it. And don’t go crazy with the fonts. Keep it simple and stick to one or two.

In short, treat your social media messages as you would all your other messages, make sure they’re ‘on message’ and look and feel the same.
