Songwriting Awards Back at Musikmesse

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • March 21, 2019

There is also a full programme for all those not taking part in the contest. Within the framework of SongsCon Frankfurt, there will be numerous opportunities for the music-creator community to get into contact with decision makers from the music industry: from A&R panel discussion, via a songwriting / production masterclass to a listening session and a songwriting camp.

For the first time, however, the ESA will be given in three different categories: ‘Singer / Songwriter’, which focuses on solo artists, ‘Open’ for bands of all genres and ‘Music for Motion Pictures’ for film and advertising composers.

Musicians have until 27th March to enter their songs. In the case of the ‘Singer-Songwriter’ category, the best entrants will be invited to play for first place in a ‘live battle’ before the jury and audience at the awards ceremony, which will be held at the ‘Circle Stage’ in Hall 3.1 and begins at 17.00 hrs on 5 April.

In the other categories, the winners will be announced and honoured during the ceremony. After the fair, the winner will go straight into the studio to work on and record the song with a professional producer. Then, via a specially founded singer-songwriter label, the ESA song will be distributed worldwide and pushed with professional radio and online promotional activities. Additionally, the winner of the Singer-Songwriter-Category will have the chance to play live in the supporting programme for the DJ sets of Mousse T. and Glasperlenspiel on the Friday evening of Musikmesse 2019.

Visitors can attend an A&R panel discussion and Q&A session with decision makers from record labels and music publishers, who will talk about subjects of topical interest to the music business. Additionally, they can have their own songs played live or from a USB drive or CD and benefit from an immediate expert opinion. Also on the programme is a ‘Songwriting / Production Masterclass’, at which a successful producer will offer practical tricks and tips for a hit production.

Additionally, on 4th and 5th April, there will be a Songwriter Camp with selected songwriters and producers from all around the world, who write new songs for artists from major labels and who are in direct contact with local A&Rs.
