Blue Headphones Win 2018 Emmy Award

Christian Wissmuller • Supplier Scene • October 25, 2018

Blue has announced that their Mix-Fi (formerly Mo-Fi) studio headphones received the 2018 Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development. The award honors engineering developments that considerably improve existing methods, or innovations that affect the production of television.

“We’re honored to have created the first headphones to ever win an Emmy Award,” said John Maier, CEO of Blue Microphones. “It’s always been our goal at Blue to create products that push the boundaries of technology and design. Winning an Emmy Award highlights the innovation we strive for, and it’s a landmark win for the company.”

Mix-Fi has been used on some of the biggest shows on television, including HBO’s “Westworld,” ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” CBS’s “NCIS,” and more.

“Blue are my go-to headphones for recording music,” said J.J. Abrams, Emmy Award-winning writer, director and producer. “Their clarity, balance, presence and accuracy make them the perfect fit — which, by the way, they also are; they’re comfortable even after endless hours of use. I love ‘em!”

“The sound quality is so clean, it’s pristine, and the balance always seems to be right,” said Ross Davis, re-recording mixer for “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Criminal Minds,” “New Girl,” “CSI,” and “Station 19.” “I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t go to them when I need to.”

Mix-Fi’s unrivaled fidelity and detailed imaging exposes issues in the mix without the need to boost volume levels, preventing ear fatigue during long mixing sessions. Multi-jointed headband and earcups provide total comfort and adjustability for a variety of head shapes and sizes. The earcups stay parallel at all times, creating the best seal for solid bass response, improved isolation, and reduction in sound bleed.

“I like how they sound, and that’s great—but I trust how they sound,” said Nathan Robitaille, Oscar-Nominated supervising sound editor and sound designer for “The Shape of Water,” “Siberia,” “X-Company,” and “Hip-Hop Evolution.”

David Beadle, supervising sound editor for “Strange Angel,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Story of Us,” concluded, “I’ve got to say, the Blue Mix-Fi’s are the best headphones I’ve ever used.”
