Peavey recently presented an exclusive screening of excerpts from “Country Music,” an upcoming documentary film by Ken Burns. Organized in coordination with Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) and the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation, the event took place March 29 at Peavey’s corporate headquarters in Meridian to the delight of community members and country music aficionados. The event started off with Peavey founder and CEO, Hartley Peavey sharing some insight on how the country and blues music of Mississippi influenced his career.

“Country music at its best is art of the highest level,” said Dayton Duncan, a producer of the film and longtime Burns collaborator. “One of the points we try to make in [the film] is that people mistakenly stereotype what they think — whether they like it or they don’t like it — country music is. If they think it’s just one thing, then they’ve missed a big part of the story.”

Duncan held a question-and-answer session after the screening. Also in attendance was Hartley Peavey, founder and CEO of Peavey Electronics, Mary Peavey, president of Peavey Electronics, Ronnie Agnew, executive director of MPB, and Betty Lou Jones, former president of the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation. A “punch-and-brunch” reception followed the screening.

“Country Music” will premiere on PBS on Sept. 15, 2019.
