It must be difficult to possess (almost) the same name as the acknowledged master of your chosen instrument, in this case, the Hammond Organ; but those who hear the Rev. Jimmie Smith perform never raise the issue. Yes, he is that good. In addition, during the Summer NAMM Expo on Thursday July 17, Rev Jimmie will record a live a tribute to that master, Jimmy Smith.
Presented by Hammond Organ USA, Keyboard Magazine, Soundcheck, and Corner Music, at the Rutledge 410 4th Ave, Nashville, Tn.; this highly anticipated event will be one of the highlights of the shows during Summer NAMM. Two amazing Hammond Artists in their own right, Jim Alfredson and Grammy Nominee Paul Brown, will join Rev. Jimmie Smith.
Rev. Jimmie Smith is a practicing Minister based in Atlanta, whose unique musical style is a blend of traditional Gospel Organ, Modern and Traditional Jazz. His onstage energy is dynamic and engaging, with an unmistakable charisma and warmth. He draws you into his music.
Rev. Jimmie will be playing a Hammond B-3 Organ, as expected; but will also feature the new Hammond Sk2 Performance Keyboard. Rev. Jimmie interweaves all the sounds of the Sk in tandem with the familiar Hammond tones to create new textures. In short, the program will not be a re-telling of Jimmy Smith’s style, but a 21st century interpretation of the Master’s musical spirit.
Rev. Jimmie’s Trio includes Marcus Finnie on Drums, James DaSilva on Guitar, and Hamilton Hardin on Bass. You can expect some very special guests too.
Doors open at 6:30 with 7:00 show time. Admission will be $20 with proceeds going to the Nashville chapter of the MusiCares Foundation. Advance purchase tickets are available through Hammond Organ USA at (630) 543-0277, and at the door.
