For the first time, Musikmesse will present showcases in cooperation with international music-promotion initiatives.
There will be performances by innovative acts and networking events for players from different parts of the music and entertainment business during Musikmesse 2018 and the accompanying Musikmesse Festival (Frankfurt am Main, 11 to 14 April). With the integration of showcases, Musikmesse is expanding its thematic spectrum and bringing together artists and professionals from the music and creative sector, as well as key players from the musical-instrument segment – another innovation following the recent announcement that MerchDays are to be included as a new event segment of the fair.
Already confirmed as the first three showcase partners are the
CEEntral Party initiative, a collaboration of music-export offices from Central and East European countries, such as Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Estonia, Ireland’s annual showcase festival and summit youbloomDublin and Luxemburg’s Music:LX music export office.
“The interest of international export initiatives in Musikmesse underscores the relevance of the fair as an international platform for the entertainment and live business. All participants will profit from these new partnerships. On the one hand, they represent an interesting contribution to the complementary programme of events. On the other hand, they facilitate valuable encounters between exhibitors and players from important markets”, says Wolfgang Weyand, Director Business Relations & Entertainment for Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound.
Giovanni Trono, Project Manager, Music:LX, adds: “As a small music export nation we always have to work extra hard, and maybe even more importantly, smart, if we are to compete internationally. As such the Musikmesse Frankfurt proposition of us getting to target music brand partnerships directly is extremely appealing. Everyone is talking about music & brands, so why not go for those brands that actually directly working with the music?”
Discussing the value added of participating, Phil Harrington, CEO of youbloomDublin, says, “youbloomDublin obviously has a clear interest in showcasing Irish talent abroad and Musikmesse Frankfurt clearly offers a great platform for connecting our scene with potential new international business partners. Yet there is more to it for the overall youbloom-brand-portfolio as we’re currently launching a new online service, targeting musicians worldwide, called youbloomConnect. As such Musikmesse Frankfurt truly caters to many of our interests at once.”
Zsolt Jeges, Project Manager of the CEEntral Party initiative, risks a glance into the future: “As a region we are still a relatively unknown player when it comes to exporting new talent, but the rapid streaming-driven-growth of our recorded music market will change this during the coming years as Central Eastern Europe is set to become a key European music market. It thus totally makes sense for us to be ambitious and showcase at one of Europe’s leading music events such as Musikmesse Frankfurt.”
Together with the concurrent Prolight + Sound, the global market place for event and media technology, the last edition of the event attracted around 100,000 visitors from 144 countries.
Further information about artists and events within the framework of the international showcases will follow soon.
