Retraction re: ‘Bakun Receives Honorary Doctorate from VanderCook’

On August 1, MMR ran on our website a press release sent out by the Communications Director of VanderCook College of Music in regards to the July 28th presentation of an honorary doctorate to Maurice “Morrie” Backun from the institution. This release incorrectly mentioned a present-day relationship between an artist – Anthony McGill of the NY Philharmonic – and Backun Musical Services. While McGill was associated with the brand in the past, the partnership is not currently existant. Though the mistake was no doubt in no way intentional or malicious, MMR regrets publicizing an incorrect statement.
