Hal Leonard Releases ‘The Earl Scruggs Banjo Songbook’

Christian Wissmuller • Print & Digital • March 10, 2021

Every banjo player, from novice to professional, learns more about their craft by studying the playing of Earl Scruggs as well as by reading his best-selling method book Earl Scruggs and the 5-String Banjo. Hal Leonard is proud to announce a new songbook authorized by the Scruggs’ estate that follows the same notation format of his renowned method book.

The Earl Scruggs Banjo Songbook features 84 carefully selected and accurately transcribed songs spanning his entire recording career, many of which have never previously appeared in print. In addition to Scruggs’ standards, it includes tablature for many songs not available on any of the Flatt & Scruggs commercial recordings, but that they often performed live. The collection contains tab for Earl’s banjo breaks, intros, and tags, plus complete banjo instrumental transcriptions. It also includes recording references and tuning and capo info for each piece. GRAMMY Award®-winning banjo player Jim Mills provides the foreword.

Songs include: Bugle Call Rag • Can the Circle Be Unbroken (Will the Circle Be Unbroken) • Duelin’ Banjos • Foggy Mountain Breakdown • I Saw the Light • I’m Goin’ Back to Old Kentucky • Lonesome Road Blues • My Little Girl in Tennessee • Nine Pound Hammer • Petticoat Junction • Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms • Steel Guitar Rag • When the Angels Carry Me Home • and many more.

The Earl Scruggs Banjo Songbook retails for $29.99. Interested retailers can call the Hal Leonard E-Z Order Line at 1-800-554-0626 to order.
