Musikmesse to host Emergenza band competition finals

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • October 6, 2015

Musikmesse has added emerging bands competition Emergenza, to its show schedule.

The contest attracts around 3,000 bands from 20 countries every year. As well as making a financial contribution to the competition, Musikmesse will also be providing the platform for the Emergenza Euro Finals.

“With this commitment, we achieve two things at once: we expand the programme of events at Musikmesse to include another exciting highlight and, at the same time, we draw attention to young talents who have the chance to perform on a professional stage during the international get-together of the global music sector here in Frankfurt”, said Musikmesse director Wolfgang Lücke.

Six bands from Germany and Europe, which are taking part in the current heats of the Emergenza competition, can ensure their chance for a place in the Emergenza Euro Finals via online voting, which will be held at the Musikmesse Centre Stage.

The winner will be chosen from the contestants by a jury of experts. The first prize is an appearance as a supporting band for a top act in London. The bands taking part in the Emergenza Euro Finals and up to 60 supporters and musicians per band will have free transfer to Musikmesse in specially chartered coaches and free admission to the fair.

“The number of professional gigs open to young groups of musicians is declining continuously and, within the framework of the Emergenza programme, our aim is to create attractive opportunities to show what they can do. Hence, we are very pleased about the platform that Musikmesse is making available for the Emergenza Euro Finals. We are also very grateful for the financial support of Messe Frankfurt, which enables us for the first time to waive the performance fee and thus give more artists the chance to take part”, added Emergenza initiator, Andrea Petricca.
