With DJ battle season underway, the prestigious DMC USA Battle for Supremacy, sponsored by Peavey Electronics, returned. The 2016 DMC Los Angeles Battle + DMC USA Battle for Supremacy took place May 22, at Fuego Lounge Rooftop on S. Figueroa St.
Representing the Peavey brand, Keith Shocklee of Public Enemy and The Bomb Squad was in attendance to throw down a party-rocking set. Shocklee added: “Peavey was there at the beginning of hip hop. I’ve been using Peavey gear since 1975. In early mobile DJ culture, they were the working man’s loudspeaker system. The thing about Peavey equipment was that it was accessible and reliable for cats like us growing up in the suburbs and inner city.”
For both the Los Angeles regional and USA Supremacy battles, Peavey awarded the first place winner with a pair of PVXp 15 speakers and the second place winner with a pair of PVXp 12 speakers. These compact and portable loudspeakers deliver high fidelity and impressive power using Peavey’s legendary speaker and power amp technology. Both models feature heavy-duty woofers, 2-3/8″ voice coils and the Peavey RX14 1.4″ titanium diaphragm compression driver coupled to a constant directivity horn. Both DMC battles were hosted by TOQUON THA MC and judged by DJ Icy Ice, Dini and more. The DMC Los Angeles Regional DJ Battle is a classic solo showcase-style DJ battle. The champion won a round-trip flight and one-night hotel stay to compete in the 2016 DMC US Finals. The DMC USA Battle for Supremacy is a head-to-head, vinyl/DVS-only battle. The champion of this competition won a round-trip flight and hotel stay to compete in the 2016 DMC World Finals in London, England.
