  • Chauvet Professional Opens New Showroom-Learning Center

    Chauvet Professional recently sponsored a highly personalized hands-on lighting workshop at its new southern California showroom and learning center.

    The Chauvet Professional Concert Lighting Workshop gave students from four colleges in the Los Angeles area a unique opportunity to design a sequence to music of their choosing on the Chauvet Professional demo rig, working with GrandMA2 programmer Joe Spangler.  Each student group got to work one-on-one with the programmer to light his or her song on an impressive rig that featured a variety of Chauvet Professional products including NEXUS panels, different COLORado fixtures, Legend 230SR Beams, Q-Wash 419Z moving yoke washes and the entire new Rogue series.

  • Gibson to Buy Philips AV

    Gibson Brands is planning to purchase Philips’ audiovisual division for roughly $187 million.

    Following the sale, Philips will still be able to profit from license agreements for the next seven years, as Gibson will be using the brand name. These agreements are dependent on the turnover that Gibson will be making with the business, but there is a minimum, according to a Philips spokesperson.

  • GC Restructures Associate Wage System

    Guitar Center is planning to replace its much-discussed sales commission system for employees with a system of hourly pay. The shift also includes a commitment that every single Guitar Center employee will earn above minimum wage beginning this September.

    The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) calls the policy shift a major victory for its organizing effort focusing on Guitar Center stores.

    GC has a different take, however. On April 25, Christopher Ian Bennett, VP of communications & corporate affairs told MMR, “We’ve announced some really exciting changes to our store compensation model and the response across the country, from associates everywhere has been incredibly positive. I think it’s fitting that as we enter into our 50th year as a n MI brand we’ve been unafraid to listen to what our associates have had to say about making Guitar Center a top employer, and to make some bold changes to support them and move us forward.

  • Yamaha Appoints Caton as Pro Audio & Combo Division District Manager

    Yamaha has appointed Timothy Caton as a new district manager for the company’s Pro Audio & Combo Division. His territory will include Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Illinois and parts of Alabama.

    “Based on Tim’s extensive background in music sales and management, he will be able to seamlessly fit into our corporate culture and service our valued dealers at the high level they expect from Yamaha,” says Reed Larrimore, national sales director, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Yamaha.
