Trade Regrets: Phil Jost

Christian Wissmuller • Trade Regrets • April 19, 2021

On April 19, we received the following from NAMM’s Dan Del Fiorentino:

We learned the sad news that long time sale rep and musician Phil Jost passed away on Friday.  He was 71 years old.

Phil had a very interesting career in music as a musician before joining the sales team at St. Louis Music in 1974, and thus entering the music products industry. In his early days, being classically trained on the piano, Phil played keyboards and early synthesizers for dances, concerts and recordings for many years. Even after joining St. Louis Music, Phil continued to play. Phil appeared on American Bandstand with Dick Clark, Solid Gold with Dionne Warwick, and the Tonight Show with Johnnie Carson. Phil worked with famed Producer/Engineer Ken Scott on albums by Jeff Beck, Missing Persons and Kansas to name a few. With St. Louis Music Phil held the various roles of Clinician, Product Specialist, Product Manager and Regional Sales Manager. After LOUD Technology purchased St. Louis Music, Phil worked for LOUD for several years before opening his own independent rep firm, Plus 3 Marketing, based in St. Louis.
