D’Addario Sponsors Recycle and Restring Events to Celebrate International Guitar Month and Earth Day

Christian Wissmuller • Supplier Scene • March 21, 2017

D’Addario has announced that it will sponsor up to 50 free Recycle and Restring events across the United States in celebration of International Guitar Month and Earth Day.

After debuting Playback, D’Addario’s industry-wide guitar string recycling program, the company is extending the program to up to 50 locations this April. Players can bring old strings to participating dealers to recycle their old strings and have their instruments restrung with D’Addario NYXL or Nickel Bronze Acoustic strings at no cost. During the event, D’Addario will also accept old strings from other brands to recycle.

Playback started in 2016 as a part of D’Addario’s Players Circle loyalty program, which rewards members for recycling their strings and gives them points that can be redeemed for new accessories like picks and guitar strings.  Because municipal recycling systems in the United States do not accept instrument strings, Playback provides an important role in recycling metal.

In addition to Recycle and Restring, D’Addario has also worked to create environmentally responsible packaging and has started tree re-planting programs.

“In many ways, this program speaks to D’Addario’s commitment, not only to its loyal players and social responsibility, but also to its mission of building an ongoing, self-perpetuating cycle of music,” says company CEO Jim D’Addario.
