Premier Drums future still unclear

Ronnie Dungan • MMR Global • August 25, 2015

The future of Premier Drums in the UK still remains unclear, despite the firm’s attempts to quieten speculation surrounding its business.

Amid talk of redundancies and defections from its roster of artists, the firm has only confirmed that it is closing its Stockport office but maintains that it will continue to manufacture in the UK. There is still no clarification of how many people (if any) lost their jobs as a result of the Stockport closure, why it was closed and who now remains at the drum manufacturer.

A statement from the firm, said: “Whilst we do not comment on specific internet speculation or market rumours, we can confirm our Stockport operation is set to close on the 14th September.  However, Premier’s UK manufacturing has not ceased and will continue. Our drumset, marching and orchestral business remains unaffected by this change. We will not be commenting further on this.”

While the firm remains tight lipped about its situation, it is also unclear whether its international business will be affected by the restructuring. Premier ended its US distribution partnership with Hanser Music Group at the close of 2014, saying it intended to take a more active role and support its network of dealers directly from its base of operations in the UK, establishing closer relations with the US market. A reduced UK business may impact on such plans going forward.
