Marshall’s very own ‘Global Glove’, brand director Craig Glover, who may or may not have been the hidden hand (glove?) behind an attempted coup in Thailand in 2010, is this week’s Hotseat guest…

Name:

Craig Glover

Job Title:

Marshall Brand Director

What does that involve?

Nurturing the Marshall brand; new product development; managing the Marshall worldwide distribution network.

What one thing would make your working life easier?

A 25th hour in the day.

The best thing about working for Marshall?

It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be the custodian of the Marshall brand. The best thing about my job is that I get to take Marshall into the future, building on its rich history and heritage; growing and diversifying the brand; making it stronger; keeping it relevant by building a dedicated team that will ensure Marshall goes from strength to strength both as a maker of quality amplifiers and as a music brand that embodies for the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll.

And the worst?

Sorry. There is no worst.

If you had a band (or if, in fact, you actually do) what would they be called?

It would be called, Bad Nooz! A tribute to Bad News, the band that was itself a ‘tribute’ to the greats of late ‘70s and early ‘80s metal. Back when Channel 4 was dangerous, the late great Rick Mayall, Ade Edmondson, Nigel Planner and Peter Richardson brought us the genius of: The Warriors of Genghis Khan, Imogene, Masturbike and Heavy Metal Farmer.

Is rock music dead?

“Rock is dead… long live rock!”

If you had a golden rule, what would it be?

Management is measurement. Without measurement, there is no management.

What was the last thing you bought in a music store?

A LAG ukulele for my son, Angus.

If you had one week to run the industry, what would you change?

I would prick the industry bubble, getting rid of its seeming insularity and invigorate it with new blood from other business sectors.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

Never look down on anybody, unless you’re helping them up. These wise words were said to me by my good friend, the late Keith Dudley.

Worst?

When the Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, erupted in 2010, I was advised to not risk a flight back to Europe from Taiwan. Although not planned, I had business I could attend to in Thailand so decided to stay there until the ash cloud had blown over. It turned out that my arrival in Bangkok coincided with an attempted coup and I was confined to my hotel under armed guard for over a week with a sound track of gun shots and rioting. It was really quite unnerving. Talk about wrong place at the wrong time!

What would like as your epitaph?

Thank you, and good night!

Do you do Twitter?

Occasionally.

If so how do we follow you?

@Theglobalglove
