On October 2nd, we received the following from NAMM's Dan Del Fiorentino:For all those who have enjoyed Bones West at the NAMM Shows over the years, we have George Roberts to thank, he was the bands founder. George passed away this week at the age of 86.
He is known in the jazz world for his recording of “Stella By Starlight” with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, which featured George on bass trombone. Among music instrument makers, he was Mr. Bass Trombone, and helped make a market for the instrument beginning in the late 1940s. He also recorded some 7,000 movie soundtracks over his career. In fact, it was his trombone part that scared audiences with the sounds before JAWS attacked (ba-dump ba-dump). Bones West was created in the mid 1970s and played for over 30 NAMM Shows, a gig of particular meaning to George, who often spoke of his love for the music industry.
