A message from the president of the Retail Print Music Dealers Association (RPMDA), David Jahnke:

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Spring! Normally, this is the time of year when we’re busy getting ready for our annual convention. Mike Watson (our Vice President – Program from Remenyi Music) would have had the presenters queued-up and ready to go; Ron Manus (Vice President Secretary/Treasurer from Alfred Music) would have had our convention site fully prepped, the A/V company dialed in and we would have settled on a hand-picked menu with options that are both healthy yet decadent; Tracy Leenman (Musical Innovations) and Karl Kjos (Kjos Music) – our Members at Large – would be busy helping Mike line up room monitors as well as working on the details for our Speed Dating sessions; Don Langlie (our beloved Past-President from Poppler’s Music) would be working with the different award committees to line up our 2021 nominees for our Don Eubanks “Rep Of The Year Award,” Sandy Feldstein “Service Award,” and RPMDA’s Lifetime Achievement Award – The Dorothy (named for Dorothy Hutchinson, former executive secretary/treasurer and a charter member of RPMDA). Most likely Don would also be working on a presentation because inevitably, we always seem to need just one more session! Finally, Richard Rejino (our Executive Director), with his always calm, cool, and collective disposition, would be bursting at the seams due to all of the details and logistics needed to pull off a convention. Like I said, “normally.”
As we know, not much has been “normal” over the past year. But some things remained normal like the need and desire for learning, creating, and making music. That’s extremely positive for our part of the music industry and almost ensures that “normal” can and will return as part of our vocabulary. For RPMDA, the one thing that remained normal is our need (and even desire for some) to hold our Annual Business Meeting! Even though we are not planning a normal convention for 2021 that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to share. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 28th 1:00pm CST and join us for Recapitulation 2021 – a 90-minute webinar with guest speakers and insights on the past, present, and future of RPMDA. I hope you’ll join us! It would be the normal thing to do.
I hope you and your teams are all safe, healthy, and staying normal.
