The Buffet Crampon USA Summer Clarinet Academy, the original limited-enrollment summer academy for college-age clarinetists, is returning to an in-person format for the first time since 2019. It will be hosted at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, home to the North American Headquarters of Buffet Crampon.
The 2020 Academy was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2021 and 2022 Academy sessions were hosted online. For 2023, the Academy returns to its original format, bringing 20 collegiate clarinetists from around the United States and Canada to Jacksonville to study individually with five world-class Clarinet Artists from the Buffet Crampon roster. The in-person Academy also offers students daily masterclasses with each Artist Faculty member, instrument technology classes with Buffet Crampon USA President/CEO François Kloc, and a visit to Buffet Crampon USA to playtest clarinets and accessories. The Academy features evening recitals from the Artist Faculty and the 20 students.
The 2023 Academy showcases another world-class roster of Buffet Crampon Clarinet Artists: Todd Cope of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Marci Gurnow of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Diana Haskell of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Luperi of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and Gregory Raden of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. 2023 marks the first appearances of Cope, Gurnow and Haskell at the in-person Academy, while Luperi and Raden have taught at the Academy several times since its inception in 2007.
The audition window is now open, and applications will be accepted until April 1. The Academy is open to clarinetists aged 18-25. Application fees will be waived for auditions submitted prior to March 15.
