Make Music Day presents the industry with an ideal opportunity to create more music makers and reach new customers. Held on June 21st, Make Music Day is part of the international Fête de la Musique, taking place in 800 cities across 110 countries. The daylong musical free-for-all, celebrates music in all its forms encouraging people to band together and play. This year NAMM’s Mass Appeal makes it even easier for music stores and manufacturers to create community Make Music Day events.
“NAMM's vision of a world in which the joy of making music is a precious element of daily living for everyone comes to life on Make Music Day,” said Joe Lamond, president and CEO of NAMM. "There is no better time for music stores and instrument makers to meet new customers, while inspiring more people to play. NAMM Mass Appeal is a clear path for Members to create hands-on music making events during the global day of music."
Mass Appeal supports NAMM Members, partners and communities’ creation of open-to-all, hands-on Make Music Day events appealing to the masses. These events are generally single-instrument ensembles ranging from four bagpipes to more than 400 guitarists, where all ages and skill levels are welcome to play. Easy Mass Appeal events for local retailers include ukulele circles, free group lessons, drum circles, musical flash mobs and jam sessions. Or Members can get creative partnering with manufacturers and musician groups locally for bigger event ideas such as record-breaking ensembles of unique instruments.
NAMM provides Member’s with event ideas, timelines and publicity materials to create June 21st celebrations. These tools are designed to help NAMM Members take a leading role in their communities’ celebration of music. Members can also receive personalized assistance from NAMM Mass Appeal Fellow Amy Garapic, an experienced musical event organizer. Garapic is available to support Members’ creation of original Mass Appeal events and connect them with community Make Music organizers.
