BASSBOSS® has launched the Krakatoa, a large-format, 4-way, Point-Source, Full-Range Loudspeaker that delivers its extraordinary range and intensity from amazingly little physical space.
Named after the explosive Krakatoa volcano, which is said to have produced the loudest sound in recorded history, the Krakatoa delivers unparalleled intensity for musical experiences. Engineered to cover the entire audible frequency spectrum from a single point, this loudspeaker combines seismic bass with crystal-clear highs and everything in between, resulting in a sonic experience that’s best described as “concentrated intensity.”
This new design is a point source loudspeaker that’s as compact as possible, minimizing the drivers’ physical offset to achieve exceptional focus and impact. The 4-way full-range configuration features four 18″ drivers dedicated to low frequencies, another 18″ dedicated to mid-bass, and a large-format, co-axial compression driver supplying mid-high and high frequencies on the same axis, all meticulously phase-aligned to form a seamless, coherent whole.
The key to achieving optimal performance from the design is the fully integrated amplification and BASSBOSS MK3 processing. The system boasts 7500W of Class D power across five discrete channels, all optimized for maximum output and reliability. There are 8 hardware-accessible presets that provide optimal performance over a range of uses. For the tech-savvy audio professional, the ControlBASS app offers seamless system updates, convenient remote monitoring, access to more presets, and the ability to customize and save settings.
The Krakatoa boasts an impressively broad frequency response of 25 – 19,000 Hz (±3 dB), a maximum measured SPL of 142 dB, and a peak calculated SPL of 145 dB, ensuring powerful and precise audio reproduction across a wide range of applications.
Measuring just 4’ x 4’ x 3’, it shares the same footprint as the Kraken-MK3 Quad 21″ Subwoofer and Makara-M3 Double 21″ Subwoofer from BASSBOSS. With slider/feet on all 4 sides it can stack and interlock with either of those subs to unleash even more of its SPL potential.
Durability meets sophistication in the speaker’s construction. The cabinet is crafted from CNC-machined 18mm birch plywood and the design incorporates extensive bracing for optimal rigidity and longevity. There are 16 M10 flypoints and 8 handles. A waterproof polyurea finish and perforated steel grilles protect the exterior.
The versatility of the Krakatoa makes it ideal for a huge variety of venues and events. In concert venues and theaters, it concentrates power while hiding hardware, allowing performers to take center stage. For outdoor festivals, unlike line-arrays, it provides rock-solid, wind-resistant coverage for large areas filled with high-energy crowds.
Nightclub owners will appreciate how the Krakatoa creates unforgettably intense nights that keep patrons coming back for more. Houses of worship will benefit from its point-source intelligibility for speech and seamless transition to emotional intensity for musical services.
BASSBOSS continues to push beyond the boundaries of conventional professional audio thinking, offering a solution that’s as powerful as it is precise. Whether you’re looking to shake the dance floor or deliver crystal-clear acoustic music, the Krakatoa is ready to redefine expectations for audio experiences across a wide range of applications.
