The WAV Series of instruments offer the combination of inspired design, performance excellence, and affordability, for best-in-class value. True to the NS tradition, the WAV captures the essence of an acoustic, while opening up a wide range of new sonic possibilities for the player.

The NS WAV electric viola body and neck are made from solid maple, chosen for strength and beauty. Attention to detail is evident in the hand-graduated, asymmetrically relieved ebony fingerboard, designed for effortless playability. The bridge, crafted from black-dyed maple, is height-adjustable, allowing each musician to tailor the instrument to their individual playing style.

One of the most remarkable features of this viola is the NS Design patented tuning system. Fine tuners mounted on the body behind the bridge ensure precise and stable tuning, and the inclusion of an automatic string clamping feature facilitates quick and easy string changes. The NS viola is equipped with D’Addario strings as standard, but it also supports a variety of other string types, including both solid and stranded core violin strings.

A standout aspect of the viola is its Polar piezo pickup system, which responds selectively to different string vibrations. This provides excellent arco performance, as well as a remarkably even and sustained plucked or pizzicato sound, akin to a mandolin.

The WAV viola’s volume and tone control are designed for simplicity and ease of use. The passive circuit, with its high impedance output, is self-powered, and requires no batteries.

A unique feature of this viola is its removable body reference bout. Made from black-dyed maple, it is easily removable, allowing the player unencumbered access to the upper playing positions on the neck.

NS Design is proud to offer the WAV series viola, joining the CR and NXTa versions in our other series. We are also delighted to answer the frequent requests of educators seeking to complete a WAV quartet as part of their programs.

Custom hardshell case standard with bow holder, handle, strap, and accessories pouches; tool kit and owner’s manual also included. Optional NS viola accessories include the Balanced Shoulder Rest for hand’s-free play: the viola stays securely in place without the help from the hands or chin, but remains mobile and responsive to the player’s movements. Additional accessories include: Violin Bow, Adjustable Chin rest, Violin/Viola Caddy, and Flight Case.

MSRP: $1,190 USD
