Cort Adds Gold-Edge Acoustic-Electric Guitar to Regular Production

Cort introduces the Gold-Edge as a regular production model in the flagship Gold Series of acoustic guitars. The Gold-Edge gained much popularity following a successful Limited Edition release at the 2020 NAMM Show. This model offers Cort’s Gold standard build and sound quality, and pushes the limits on ergonomics and playability with an innovative triple bevel cut system. Together with selected master grade tonewoods and a L.R. Baggs® Anthem pickup system, the Gold-Edge represents the true golden result of Cort’s tradition and innovation.

The Gold-Edge’s triple bevel cut is more than just a focal point in high craftsmanship; it’s highly functional in providing maximum comfort to players. The cutaway bevel and body armrest bevel existed previously on various Cort guitars, but the newly added waist bevel on the back of the Gold-Edge helps to ensure that the areas where the guitar and player’s body meet are as ergonomically shaped as possible. The bevels have been meticulously laid out to retain the acoustic properties of the body.

Cort combines the triple bevel cut innovation with a trifecta of tonewoods. The solid Sitka spruce top is treated through an Aged-to-Vintage (ATV) torrefaction process that effectively cures the wood and opens it up more over time, giving the guitar a big tone of a decades-old, highly-sought-after acoustic. The tonal openness of the top is supported by Cort’s hand-scalloped X-bracing and is well balanced by the back and sides made of Master Grade solid-flamed myrtlewood for a bright, yet smooth and warm sound. Clear and powerful, myrtlewood emphasizes the high-mids for excellent articulation. Its figuring improves with higher grades, and the Gold-Edge features the highest grade possible. Black binding with triple-ply purfling unites the body materials with sophistication, and a sonically enhanced UV finish resists scratches while being lightweight to improve the natural acoustic resonance for full-bodied, rich tone.

To deliver pure acoustic vibrations without any coloration, Cort has chosen the L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup/preamp system that easily connects to an amplifier or PA. The minimalistic controls subdue unneeded feedback and do not interfere with the Gold-Edge’s natural aesthetic, keeping the player focused on playing.

The Gold-Edge offers sonic improvements at every angle, including the ebony bridge and pins, which combined with the genuine bone nut (1 ¾-inch) and saddle, keep the fundamental acoustic sound focused and tight with greater sonic projection than plastic. The combination of high-quality materials enhances the transfer of the string vibrations throughout the soundboard top, body, and neck. The connection between the Gold-Edge’s neck and body is another key factor contributing to this model’s sonic excellence. Cort starts with a tight-fitting traditional dovetail reinforced with a bolt, creating a DoubleLock neck joint that maximizes the transfer of tone and improves resonance. Further upgrading the Gold-Edge, the mahogany neck (25.3-inch scale) is reinforced with special walnut inserts that provide added rigidity and stability while retaining the natural properties of the wood. Players can maximize the advantages of the Venetian cutaway with the addition of an ebony fretboard that offers jet-black beauty and slick smoothness. Grover® vintage machine heads assist with tuning stability.

When it comes to acoustic guitars that provide amazing tone and modern innovation right out of the box, the Gold-Edge remains a cut above other instruments in its class.
