D’Angelico Guitars proudly introduces their newest archtop model, the Excel 16—a sleek, sixteen-inch jazz box that stems from the deepest roots of the brand’s rich history. Offered as a smaller alternative to the brand’s iconic top-seller, the EXL-1, the all-new Excel 16 was designed with the gigging musician in mind and promises punchy, woody and sweet tone that immediately recalls classic New York City jazz.
A happy medium for traditional jazz players looking for an instrument that is easier to wield than its larger counterparts, the Excel 16 has a slightly shallower body depth at 2.75″ but still yields all the full-bodied warmth one desires from an archtop. An ebony fingerboard with a 12-inch radius offers pianistic articulation while a slightly thicker C-shape neck makes for remarkable comfort—equal parts hefty and fast-playing.
Available in two colors—Amber and Amaretto Burst—the Excel 16’s acoustic resonance is complemented by a Seymour Duncan Johnny Smith Floating Mini Humbucker that maximizes top sustain (Amber) or a Seymour Duncan ’59 Humbucker for bold and balanced tones that can more easily cut through a larger band setting (Amaretto Burst).
