On Friday, 3 April 2020, Frankfurt will once again be a magnet for songwriters, composers and producers from all over Europe. At the ‘European Songwriting Awards’, a jury of international A&Rs from labels such as Universal Music Polydor / Island and Ultra Music Europe will honour outstanding creative talents. Following the successes of past years, the organisers have upped the ante this year and are now giving the award in four categories. Additionally, visitors to ‘SongsCon Frankfurt’ can look forward to a full programme of panel discussions, songwriting & producing masterclasses, a listening session and a songwriting camp.
For the third time running, the European Songwriting Award is set to be one of the highlights of Musikmesse in Frankfurt and creative personalities are invited to enter their songs in one or more of the following categories: ‘singer / songwriter’ (focusing on solo artists), ‘open’ (for all genres), ‘motion-picture music’ (for film and advertising composers) or – for the first time – ‘Pop’ (for all composers active in the mainstream world). The deadline for receipt is 25 March 2020. The jury will make nominations from all entries and the winners be announced at the awards ceremony where the highpoint will be a live contest in the ‘singer / songwriter’ category with the entrants performing in front of the jury and an audience of Musikmesse visitors. The winning songs in all categories will benefit from a professional radio and online / playlist promotion.
Everyone else from the world of music who has not entered for the contest can also enjoy a brim-full programme at Musikmesse on 3 April. For example, at the A&R panels of SongsCon Frankfurt, they can hold discussions with decision makers from music publishers and record labels and exchange thoughts on subjects of topical relevance to the music business. Moreover, at the ‘Acoustic Circle’, the main stage in Hall 3.1, musicians have the opportunity to present their songs live or on a flash drive / CD and hear the opinion of experts from the labels. Additionally, there will be a ‘songwriting / producing’ masterclass at which star producer Matthew Tasa will pass on tips and expertise for hit production. A day before, on 2 April, Musikmesse begins a two-day international songwriter camp where music authors and producers will write songs for selected artists’ projects of major labels and discuss them with A&Rs.
