Gibson Requests Court to Relieve the Company of $60M in Claims

Amidst bankruptcy proceedings, Gibson Brands, Inc. has filed a request to toss out a $61.4 million claim by German company, Tronical.

Tronical’s technology was behind Gibson’s “G-Force” automatic tuning system, first introduced as a feature on the “Robot Guitar” in 2007, was then controversally made into a standard feature on the 2015 line of guitars – a move that proved to be largely unpopular with end-users. In ’16 and ’17 the technology was only available on certain upper-tier electrics and is barely represented in the 2018 Gibson lineup.

The Nashville Post is reporting that Gibson alleges that Tronical first sued the company only after Gibson had filed a $4 million lawsuit alleging breach of contract. The Post further states that, according to Gibson, Tronical filed two invoices totalling more than $50 million mere days after Gibson filed from protection from its creditors.

In August, Gibson posted the job listing for a new CEO on ExecThread.com with earlier bankruptcy filings indicating that longtime CEO Henry Juszkiewicz will exit his position after Gibson’s restructuring is complete, but will remain in a conulting role.
