New for 2023, Ibanez has unveiled the RGA622HX, a prestige-level model in the new Axe Design Lab series. Built on the RGA body shape, this new instrument possesses an unusual 27-fret design. This small but notable increase in the number of frets allows this instrument to have fully familiar feel to those most comfortable on a 6-string guitar, while delivering the added benefit of some extended-range flexibility. The pickups are a DiMarzio combo featuring an Air Norton (S shape) in the neck position with a “The Tone Zone” in the bridge positon. Additional features on this guitar include an African Mahogany body, Macassar Ebony fretboard, Luminlay side dots, and a Lo-Pro Edge bridge.
Axe Design Lab
Concept & Philosophy
Ibanez has a long history of pushing guitar design to new places and expanding the availability of exciting new features to players everywhere. Created with this philosophy in mind, the new Axe Design Lab series will build upon the latest trends in guitar development, while also inspiring the next generation of advancements through experimentation and innovation. This series will serve as the successor to the Axion Label series, as well as a direct counterpart to the Bass Workshop series, but focusing exclusively on guitars. Axe Design Lab guitars will cover every Ibanez product tier from standard to j.custom, and they’ll range from ultra-modern takes on existing favorites, to guitars built on entirely new concepts. The light multi scale feature on the SML721 being a prime example.
