JodyJazz Completes Popular HR* CUSTOM DARK Series with New Baritone Model 

JodyJazz® has announced the completion of its extremely popular HR* CUSTOM DARK Series with the introduction of the new HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone Model. The HR* CUSTOM DARK Series is JodyJazz’s line of premium hard rubber mouthpieces. The new HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone offers the same beautiful, warm, dark, traditional, and vintage sound that is characteristic of the entire HR* CUSTOM DARK series. The HR* CUSTOM DARK Soprano, Alto and Tenor models are among the company’s most popular and successful mouthpieces, and they are now joined by the Baritone model. The new HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone is available in 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 tip openings. 

“In designing the new HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone, I played many of the classic Jazz Baritone pieces, but I couldn’t find anything with the warmth and darkness that I was seeking, that still had enough clarity and cut for live gigs,” said Jody Espina, President and Founder of JodyJazz Inc. “With the HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone, we retained the clarity of the mid register while taking off annoying highs by designing a rollover baffle which gives nice feedback to the player that Baritone players are used to. We made a nice big, large chamber and bore to give it this mellow, warm pretty sound. After testing this new piece on many gigs, and on many different Baritone Saxophones I knew that I had found the sound I was after,” he continued. 

The HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone is made using the company’s proprietary ‘CHR’ Chedeville® Hard Rubber. This exclusive special hard rubber formula, which was developed for the company’s Chedeville brand of Classical mouthpieces, imparts more warmth and beauty in the sound due to its purity and density. As with the 

Chedeville mouthpieces, the new HR* CUSTOM DARK Series bears the ‘CHR’ mark to identify its construction from this special hard rubber. 

Characteristic of the HR* CUSTOM DARK Series, the new Baritone model features a heavy stylized ring on the shank of the mouthpiece. The profile and heft of this ring was inspired by JodyJazz’s popular POWER RING® ligature. With significantly more mass on the shank of the mouthpiece the HR* CUSTOM DARK series mouthpieces enjoy a boost of body and increased harmonics. 

Like all JodyJazz mouthpieces, the incredible free-blowing response of the HR* CUSTOM DARK Baritone is due to a superior facing curve and expert hand finished tip rail, baffle and table and each mouthpiece is individually play tested to maintain the highest consistency and quality.
