Out of a variety of first prize P. Mauriat saxophones to choose from, competition winner, Katherine Weintraub, chose the new Master-97A.
“It’s always an honor to sponsor the competition in the way we do,” Says Craig Denny, vice president – Band and Orchestra at St. Louis Music. “The Master-97A is a huge step forward for us in terms of saxophone making, and we feel that Katherine choosing the 97A validates all the hard work that went into its design.”
The ISSAC competition was held in October of 2014, and the 1st prize included a cash award, a performance on Dan Trueman’s next album, and the winner’s pick of professional P. Mauriat saxophones.
Katherine Weintraub (a native of Sarasota, Florida) is a performer, educator, and doctoral candidate at the Eastman School of Music. She holds her bachelor and master of music degrees from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Professor Donald Sinta. While a student at Eastman in 2013, she was awarded first-prize in the International William C. Byrd Young Artist competition. The following year, she was invited to perform as a soloist with the Flint Symphony Orchestra and act as clinician for a master class at the Flint Institute of Music. Katherine’s most influential mentors include Lisa Sloan (Sarasota, Florida), Donald Sinta (University of Michigan), and Chien-Kwan Lin (Eastman School of Music).
