MakeMusic, makers of SmartMusic, announce that they have acquired Upbeat Music App, a music collaboration tool that allows musicians to record and generate virtual performance videos, as well as rehearse remotely in real-time.
MakeMusic is thrilled to be able to integrate this technology into SmartMusic, providing a video recording component to accompany and sync with the existing audio assessment. This exciting upgrade will come at no additional cost to users.
Implications for SmartMusic teachers and students:
-
Teachers can enable video recording for an assignment.
-
Students and Performers will be able to record video with assessment to submit for an assignment.
-
Students will be able to self-analyze using video replay and assessment before submitting.
-
Both teachers and students will experience enhancements in recording quality.
-
Recordings will be saved for students to submit at a later time.
-
Teachers will be able to merge student submissions together to create a virtual performance.
Seth Radman, Upbeat Co-Founder, stresses the great fit between the two companies: “MakeMusic has been a leader in the music education technology space for decades, and SmartMusic provides an engaging practice experience with a catalog of incredible content. We’re excited to join the MakeMusic family and look forward to leveraging Upbeat’s technology to make learning music even better.”
Sudarshan Muralidhar, Upbeat Co-Founder adds: “We’ve been SmartMusic users since we were in middle school, and even then were intrigued by the many possibilities of music technology in the classroom. Though we’ve both come a long way since childhood, it’s incredibly exciting to return to our roots and revisit SmartMusic. We can’t wait to help SmartMusic integrate Upbeat’s technology to make the product even more exciting and compelling than it already is!”
“It’s a delight to welcome and integrate the tech stack Seth and Sudarshan have developed with passion over the past couple of years,” says Greg Dell’Era, President of MakeMusic and Alfred Music. “This addition to our MakeMusic ecosystem will provide immediate value to our existing SmartMusic customers, while all of our teams are also excited to start building on top of it to serve a broader audience of committed educators and musicians. We’ll keep adding great tools into our platforms, and combining them with state of the art content from Alfred Music and all of our partners, so we build the reference ecosystem for music practice.”
