Music & Arts, one of the nation’s leading providers of musical instruments and private music lessons, is proud to announce the release of Mi Vecino (My Neighbor), a new original work for concert band by acclaimed educator and composer Michele Fernández. The piece is the seventh commissioned work in the company’s Project Imagine series and is now available as a free PDF download for music educators through September 19, 2025.
This upbeat, rhythmically vibrant piece celebrates friendship and cultural unity. Written for younger concert bands in the Afro-Cuban son montuno style, it requires no prior experience with Latin music for an exciting and accurate performance. All percussion parts are accessible, clearly notated and require no specialized technique to achieve authenticity. Students and audiences alike will find this piece engaging, danceable and memorable.
At approximately three minutes in length and graded 2.5 in difficulty, Mi Vecino makes an excellent addition to the repertoire of middle school and younger high school concert bands.
