Music China 2016 Fringe Program Confirmed

Following the show’s theme of business networking, music education and culture appreciation, Music China’s fringe program is set to engage show participants with content-rich forums, workshops, master classes, stage performances, and concerts in the four-day show which will be held from October 26 – 29 2016 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. 

More than 1,900 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions will showcase a comprehensive range of musical instruments across the 113,000 sqm show floor.

Map out the best business strategies

The signature NAMM CMIA Forum and NAMM University Courses will return this year and feature industry leaders and CEOs who will unveil the secret formula to revamp your business. Highlights include:

 

NAMM CMIA Forum

Topic:                     Making music across the lifespan. Promote community music making, expand adult music making

 

Speakers:         Mr Lee Higgins, President of International Society of Music Education, Director of International Centre of Community Music, St John University, UK

                               Ms Abigail D’Amore, CEO of Musical Futures

                               Mr Terence Ng, President of Parsons Music Corporation

Expand music education and appreciation

A blend of music education forums and classes on traditional Chinese and Western music, training courses for piano technicians, seminars on technology and innovation, master classes and  Kid’s Music Castle will be held to nurture musical talents.

 

Global Forum on Chinese Traditional Music

A special Zither Art Zone will feature archaic zither replicas from ancient Chinese warring states and the Tang dynasty, as well as zithers with Dunhuang fresco designs. Ms Su Fang Li, Senior Technician and Quality Director of Shanghai National Musical Instruments Factory will also share her techniques in the zither making workshop.

 

Violin Salon
Mr Quan Zheng, Professor and Director of the Department of Violin Making of Central Conservatory of Music from China and top European violin masters, Mr Nicola Lazzari, Mr Roberto Collini and Mr Maurizio Tadioli and Mr Florian Leonhard will demonstrate and share their refined violin-making skills. Italy Cremona Municipality and other experts will explain the value and authentication of antique violin collections.

 

All About Jazz
Co-organised with China Jazz Education Festival, the Jazz forum will explore international perspectives of jazz promotion and education practices in China with leading jazz musicians and professors including:

Mr Jamey Aebersold, Internationally Renowned Saxophonist, jazz Educator and one of the founders of the American Jazz Education System

l   Mr Gene Aitken, American conductor, jazz educator, guest Professor of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the Permanent Conductor & Artistic Director of Singapore Symphony Orchestra

l   Mr David Liebman, saxophonist, educator and founder of Jazz International Association of School of Jazz

l   Mr Yong Huang, Vice president of China Jazz Society, founder of 9 Gates Jazz Festival

l   Mr Xiaolu Zhang, Associate Professor of Saxophone, Jazz Programme Director of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, President of Shanghai Saxophone Association, Vice President of Shanghai Wind and Brass Association

l   Mr Xiao Chuan Li, jazz trumpet player, composer, lecturer of Shanghai Conservatory of Music

 

Grammy Award winners and stars spice up the show

In addition to over 1,000 indoor and outdoor live concerts, a line-up of Grammy Award winners and stars will perform onstage at Music China including:

l   Mr Daniel Ho, Six-time Grammy Award winner

l   Mr Jose de Castro, Grammy Award guitarist

l   Continuing last year’s successful performance, Yamaha artist Mr Maksim Mrvica will return with his well-known piano music

l   Mr Zhang Lei, champion of popular national singing competition ‘The Voice of China Season 4’

Participants can also join the Drum Circles to enjoy the fun of rhythmic expressions instructed by world-famous facilitator Mr Chalo Eduardo. Europe’s largest school band competition SchoolJam winners will perform on stage. A charity campaign ‘Music Warms Our Hearts’ Care for Children with Autism will be held during the show.

Music China will open for trade for four days from October 26 – 29, end-users and the public are welcome to visit on the last two days.
