Unlike their brighter, louder siblings — acoustic and electric guitars — Classical (or “Spanish”) guitars use nylon strings (unless you’re a true traditionalist and seek out cat-gut strings).
The resulting sound is “softer,” or can be, but also is arguably capable of far greater dynanic range and expression, making these instruments ideal for (you guessed it) Classical music, although Flamenco and Jazz players (and others) favor these nylon string axes.
