Sheptone introduces the David Becker Signature Set of premium nickel wound electric guitar strings, designed for a jazz great with feel and functionality that’s suitable for multiple styles of playing. When Becker needed a custom set of strings to achieve his desired performance, he chose Sheptone, knowing they’d put in the effort to meet his requirements. Handcrafted through a meticulous, never-rushed process, the David Becker Signature Set from Sheptone offers a unique gauge combination made to Becker’s liking and with versatile appeal for fingerstyle players.

DownBeat magazine has called David Becker “a poet on the jazz guitar.” Other sources have referred to him as a “virtuoso.” No matter how his talent is described, the consensus is that David Becker has one of the most unique voices in jazz and contemporary music. GRAMMY® and Emmy nominated, Becker plays, teaches, composes, and produces. He’s led the critically acclaimed David Becker Tribune around the world for nearly 40 years, playing alongside celebrated acts such as Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Michael Brecker and many more. Becker brings a passion for the new and different while keeping an eye on the past. Sheptone shares his philosophy, respecting what’s tried-and-true and thinking outside of the box, or in this case, outside of the traditional string package.

As Becker puts it, “Sheptone strings allow for a more direct connection to the pick and fingers, helping for better articulation especially on the wound strings. They’re consistent. They feel and sound great from the low notes all the way up the neck.”

In the David Becker Signature Set, the third string, .020W, is handwound, improving intonation and providing tonal balance and a full, warm sound. The full set measurements for the roundwound set are .012 .015 .020W .030 .042 .052, delivering the heaviness traditional jazz and rhythm players are accustomed to but with enough bend to keep things interesting. Becker adds that he plans to use his signature set on his upcoming tour in New Zealand.

Like other Sheptone strings, the David Becker Signature Set is made on a U.S. workbench using the best-available, domestically sourced raw materials. When it comes to winding strings, Sheptone avoids coating them, which suffocates tone. Rather, each Sheptone string is made by hand, one at a time, with nickel-plated steel that’s carefully wrapped around a treated hex steel core. Through this meticulous process, Sheptone avoids rushing and mass production, ensuring the quality, feel, and durability required by the most discerning players, like David Becker.

Retail: $11.99 USD
