Pearl River Guitars Debuts Mike Lawson Signature Model

Christian Wissmuller • MMR GlobalUpfront • January 26, 2024

Pearl River‘s Leng Tshua and musician, songwriter, (and MMR publisher) Mike Lawson with the newly introduced Mike Lawson Signature Acoustic from Pearl River Guitars. In addition to owning artistpro, LLC, publishers of SBO+ and MMR, Lawson still performs over 30 shows a year, and has released eight albums in his career, recording and performing with Merl Saunders, Vince Welnick, Bob Welch, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Phil Keaggy, Joe Louis Walker, Dennis Robbins, Pete Sears, John McEuen, Gary Talley (The Box Tops), Vassar Clements, and a host of other musicians over the past 30+ years. Lawson consulted Pearl River on the final appointments of their new acoustic guitar line and his personal guitar is based on their new A800-D model dreadnought style guitar. It features a solid rosewood back and sides, flame maple binding, a solid spruce top with an ebony fretboard, hand cut bone nut, rosewood headstock veneer on a one-piece mahogany neck, with a rosewood bridge.

With over 70 guitars in his collection, he recently chose to record with the Pearl River for his upcoming ninth “Mike Lawson and Friends” series of albums, the third to feature Grammy-winning fiddle and mandolin player, Michael Cleveland, Keaggy, and others. “The guitar sounds amazing, I wish I had one when I started out playing in a bluegrass band five nights a week back in 1989, or any of the sessions I’ve done. It is a loud, balanced, rich, tone-cannon. The handmade guitar, and bone nut were expertly crafted. The bone nut alone would probably cost $150 from my favorite Nashville luthier. The A-800D played wonderful right out of the case when it arrived. They also sent me the A900-GCB, a stunning cutaway model. I’m a pretty traditional guitar guy, and the dreadnought won me over immediately. The solid woods are beautiful and build is excellent. Their A800-D records beautifully, as is. I asked for some changes and they got right on them. I am making plans to visit the factory in Guangzhou, China soon to see them made.” Lawson, is also a prolific publisher of hundreds of books and videos on audio production, former Grammy trustee, and ardent supporter of music education with the 501c-3 TI:ME (Technology in Music Education).  pearlriverpianogroup.com
